Overview
Between Microsoft global - (Japan) AND selected Microsoft Certified Partners
- GIGA, an initiative led by the Japanese government (the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF)), aims to digitize and improve student outcomes in Japan. They formed the GIGA program to aid these efforts.
- The MOE supports 1,700 BOEs (districts) in Japan.
- Each BOE receives funding from the MoF for technology investments against GIGA initiatives on a 5-year refresh cycle.
- GIGA 2.0 is centered on the next device refresh and MoF dispersing of funds to the 1,700 local BOEs (beginning in Q1 FY25).
Goals
- There is a large refresh opportunity in Japan through GIGA 2.0:.
- GIGA is about selling the entire Microsoft ecosystem to benefit Microsoft, our partners, and prepare students for the technical workforce.
- The long tail of holding the Windows base is critical to Windows, M365, and Intune share
- 50% of Windows in Japan is managed by Intune. Japan drives 30% of Intune Commercial Business.
- There is a large M365 upsell opportunity for BOEs to transition to cloud on Entry devices.
Incentive Summary
- Rewards device partners for driving sales of 3P Windows devices and Microsoft for Education solutions.
- Enables partners with resources needed to streamline the device management process by covering deployment and training costs and services to ultimately:
- Arm the partner with a competitive advantage in the bid process.
- Enable partners to reduce the burden on schools and IT departments, thereby supporting a positive UX, and long-term retention and usage of Windows and Microsoft solutions.
